Join Us for a “We Demand Democracy” Virtual Town Hall
Last week, our democracy survived an unacceptable attack, as a violent mob incited by the President attacked the US Capitol in an attempt to change the outcome of the election and disrupt the peaceful transition of power. There's a lot of work to do to repair the damage caused by Trump and his enablers. But, we have an opportunity with the new Congress, to transform our democracy. More

This Giving Tuesday, will you join us in this fight by donating what you can so we are able to organize West Virginians, and bring our communities together to advance and protect our institutions? Let’s Make It Permanent
This year's pandemic created a new host of obstacles for our elections, forcing West Virginia to get creative in order to keep voters and poll workers safe. This included expanded access to absentee voting options, which allowed voters to make their voices heard without risking their lives -- leading to record turnout across the nation. We saw the impact that increased access to the ballot box had on voter engagement, and we cannot allow that to be taken away. More

Results Are In. The Voters Have Spoken.
With record turnout across our nation, Americans made their voices heard. But unfortunately, our systems are being challenged by players who want to change the rules of the game. Some politicians are attempting to sow doubt by using unproven claims to change the outcome of the election because they are afraid of losing. We must continue to remain diligent in the face of misinformation as our new government is formed over the next few months.   More

Hang Tight – Our Democracy is Working
It may take a while for all of the votes to be counted but the most important thing is that all votes are counted and everyone’s voice is heard. Any attempts to undermine the count are direct threats to the integrity of our elections and our democracy. American voters will determine the outcome of the election, not any particular politician or government body.  More

An Election Day Guide
Today’s the day, y’all. Polls opened in West Virginia at 6:30 a.m., some with hours-long waits before even opening the doors. We have until 7:30 p.m. to do this thing, so if you’re still holding onto your absentee ballot, take it to the polls with you—it can be “spoiled” so your in-person vote will be counted today. If you are at high risk and can’t make it to the polls but you’ve still got your ballot, drop it in the mail right now! No really, right now, we’ll wait. ...You’re back? Okay, good. Your ballot won’t be counted until the canvass on Nov. 9, but that’s alright, you still did the thing. We’re proud of you. More

Recipe for Confusion
The state made the decision to not automatically mail ballot applications for the November general election. Changing up the rules is a recipe for confusion, and with WV having one of the lowest turnout rates in the nation, we should be working to expand access to voting, not putting in place more barriers. WV Citizens for Clean Elections is fighting against this disenfranchisement by informing voters about the voting process. Help us in our mission of fighting for clean elections by donating today so we can help voters navigate the process and cast their ballots. More

Stealing the Court
After our country lost the great leader and icon, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, it only took a few days before powerful special interests launched a well-funded, politically motivated campaign to steal the court. West Virginians are no stranger to special interests and dark money swaying our court systems, which is why we are not going to sit on the sidelines and wait to see what happens. Join us in the fight to save our democracy. More

Planning to Vote by Mail? Here’s What You Need to Know
As you probably know, all West Virginia voters have the option of voting absentee due to concerns about COVID-19. This is the safest option because you can vote from home. However, despite our efforts to make the process consistent with the primary, for the general election registered voters in most counties won’t be mailed an absentee ballot application. Here's what you need to know and what you can do to ensure that our democracy can function during this pandemic. More

Open Letter to Governor Jim Justice, Secretary of State Mac Warner
A coalition of voting rights advocates and community leaders is continuing to call on Governor Jim Justice and Secretary of State Mac Warner to mandate and provide funding for the mailing absentee ballot applications to all registered voters as was done in the primary election. In an open letter to the Governor and the Secretary, the groups said the decision by some counties to mail the applications has the potential to introduce unfairness into the process and cause confusion for voters who may be expecting an application that will never come. The coalition also cited lack of internet access and issues with the absentee ballot application portal, as reinforcing their position that the process should be consistent with the primary election. Editorial Memo: Funding is Critical to Ensuring Free, Fair and Safe Elections
The election is just months away, and West Virginia and other states are running out of time to make critical purchases and plans to ensure free, fair and safe elections. State and federal leaders must urgently invest in and put in place changes across the country so all Americans have equal access to the ballot box, and no American has to choose between their safety and their vote.  More
