The Foundation of Our Democracy

The foundation of any strong democracy is a fair and impartial court system. As attacks on the freedom to vote continue around the country, we have seen what happens when our courts are functioning properly. And we have also felt the fear of what would happen if they malfunction.

Our democracy is being put to the test. Courts are one of our last lines of defense against abuses of power in elections. But an alarming report by the Brennan Center for Justice shows that partisan state lawmakers are increasingly taking aim at the ability of state courts to ensure free and fair elections.

That’s why we must keep the pressure on our Senators to pass bold democracy reform at the federal level that will protect and strengthen our freedom to vote, while continuing the fight at the state level to ensure that our courts are free from political and special interest influence and can protect our rights and guard against abuses of power.

With a vote on the Freedom to Vote Act delayed until January, and a legislature primed to continue its attacks on our courts, we need your support so we can hit the ground running in the new year.

Can you make a donation so we continue fighting for free, fair, and safe elections and fair and impartial courts?

A generous supporter has agreed to match every donation up to $5,000 we receive between now and the end of the year, so your donation will have double the impact. We only need to raise about $800 to reach our goal.

You can donate online or by sending a check to WV CAEF* at 1500 Dixie Street, Charleston, WV 25311. (Please be sure to include “WVCCE Match” in the comment field or memo/for line.)

Thank you for being a major part of our movement for a more inclusive, transparent, and accountable democracy. Your support means the world to us.

Happy Holidays from all of us here at WV Citizens for Clean Elections!
