Much Ado About Elections, and More
Ten days into the 2023 legislative, more than 50 bills related to elections have been introduced. Two have traction, and action is needed to keep HB 2244 off the House Judiciary Committee agenda. Related to elections, we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge Saturday's anniversary of the US Supreme Court’s devastating Citizens United decsion, the role of dark money in shifting the balance of the Court to the right, and it's impact on our fundamental rights. West Virginia Voters Win With Defeat of Amendment 1
Under the changes proposed in Amendment 1, an extremist state legislature could have removed any public servant – and overturned the will of the people – without due process. We're proud of West Virginia voters for coming together and defending their right to democracy. More

A Survey to Safeguard Democracy
As we gather, as a nation, to reflect upon the prevalent circulation of the “Big Lie,” and the resulting January 6th coup attempt, it is more important than ever that we take the necessary steps to safeguard our democracy. To accomplish this, WV Citizens for Clean Elections and its partners in the WV Freedom to Vote Coalition are working to eliminate barriers of access to the polls, hold our election officials accountable, and restore faith in the sanctity of our elections among the general public. Join Us for a “We Demand Democracy” Virtual Town Hall
Last week, our democracy survived an unacceptable attack, as a violent mob incited by the President attacked the US Capitol in an attempt to change the outcome of the election and disrupt the peaceful transition of power. There's a lot of work to do to repair the damage caused by Trump and his enablers. But, we have an opportunity with the new Congress, to transform our democracy. More

Hang Tight – Our Democracy is Working
It may take a while for all of the votes to be counted but the most important thing is that all votes are counted and everyone’s voice is heard. Any attempts to undermine the count are direct threats to the integrity of our elections and our democracy. American voters will determine the outcome of the election, not any particular politician or government body.  More

An Election Day Guide
Today’s the day, y’all. Polls opened in West Virginia at 6:30 a.m., some with hours-long waits before even opening the doors. We have until 7:30 p.m. to do this thing, so if you’re still holding onto your absentee ballot, take it to the polls with you—it can be “spoiled” so your in-person vote will be counted today. If you are at high risk and can’t make it to the polls but you’ve still got your ballot, drop it in the mail right now! No really, right now, we’ll wait. ...You’re back? Okay, good. Your ballot won’t be counted until the canvass on Nov. 9, but that’s alright, you still did the thing. We’re proud of you. More

Recipe for Confusion
The state made the decision to not automatically mail ballot applications for the November general election. Changing up the rules is a recipe for confusion, and with WV having one of the lowest turnout rates in the nation, we should be working to expand access to voting, not putting in place more barriers. WV Citizens for Clean Elections is fighting against this disenfranchisement by informing voters about the voting process. Help us in our mission of fighting for clean elections by donating today so we can help voters navigate the process and cast their ballots. More

The election is just months away, and West Virginia and other states are running out of time to make critical purchases and plans to ensure free, fair and safe elections.
