URGENT: Monday Public Hearing on Bill to Limit Voting Access
A bill (SB 565) that would limit access to early voting, gut automatic voter registration, and make it easier to remove voters from the registration rolls is picking up steam in the WV Legislature. The House Judiciary Committee will hold a virtual public hearing on the bill Monday, April 5 at 8 AM. Please call (304) 340-3252 between 1 and 2 PM TODAY to sign up. Update: Still Time to Contact Delegates on HJR 2
It’s obvious that at least some members of the Legislature are under the mistaken impression that the acting Supreme Court that intervened in the impeachment of former Justice Margaret Workman stripped them of their power to impeach. This is completely false. There’s still time to contact your delegate(s) and tell them to vote NO on this dangerous, unnecessary amendment to our constitution. More

Power Grabs and a Gift to Special Interests
We're less than two weeks into the 2021 session and the WV Legislature is moving quickly to undermine the ability of West Virginia courts to defend our democracy and guard against abuses of power. And after three consecutive years of not gettting their way, some legislative leaders still want to waste millions of dollars on an unnecessary intermediate court of appeals because big-money, out-of-state, powerful special interests are demanding it. Last week, our democracy survived an unacceptable attack, as a violent mob incited by the President attacked the US Capitol in an attempt to change the outcome of the election and disrupt the peaceful transition of power. There's a lot of work to do to repair the damage caused by Trump and his enablers. But, we have an opportunity with the new Congress, to transform our democracy. More

Let’s Make It Permanent
This year's pandemic created a new host of obstacles for our elections, forcing West Virginia to get creative in order to keep voters and poll workers safe. This included expanded access to absentee voting options, which allowed voters to make their voices heard without risking their lives -- leading to record turnout across the nation. We saw the impact that increased access to the ballot box had on voter engagement, and we cannot allow that to be taken away. More
