Our right to know who is influencing our elections is not a partisan issue. No matter your political beliefs, we all benefit when we know what is going on in the government. More

With Blankenship Conviction, We Must Remember Fuller Legacy on the State
With the unprecedented conviction of former Massey Energy CEO, Don Blankenship, the public should take comfort that Blankenship has been served a small measure of justice for his actions. But we also must remember Blankenship's fuller legacy on the state and the effects his prioritization of profit had elsewhere — namely our elections. More

Fair Courts: Money, politics tipping scales of justice?
If you went to court tomorrow, would you ultimately get a fair and impartial decision? Latest Supreme Court Ruling: Constitutional Amendment Could Fix this Mess
Another disappointing ruling came down from the the U.S. Supreme Court under Chief Justice Roberts lastweek, in which Big Money scored a major victory against average citizens. In McCutcheon v. Passage of landmark reform bill deserves praise
CHARLESTON, W.Va.—Citizens for Clean Elections, a statewide coalition of organizations promoting fair and clean elections in West Virginia, commended the state legislature and Governor Manchin for supporting a bill to regulate 527 committees and other groups that engage in electioneering that masquerades as “issue advocacy.” The bill, passed unanimously by the state Senate and on a 91-4 vote in the House during the recent special session, came in response to millions of dollars spent on negative political advertising during the state Supreme Court race in 2004. The coalition also acknowledged Secretary of State Betty Ireland for her support and commitment to enforcing the new law. More
