WV Citizens for Clean Elections to Launch Pro-Democracy, Anti-Corruption Platform

Growing campaign already has thirty-seven legislative candidates from across the aisle supporting reform agenda to make W.Va. politics clean, fair and accountable

Details: CHARLESTON, W.Va. — On Tuesday, September 18, a coalition of citizen groups working to increase transparency and accountability in West Virginia elections is launching a campaign to build support for common sense solutions that they say can put state government on a path to solving problems that affect all West Virginians.

The Pro-Democracy, Anti-Corruption Platform developed by WV Citizens for Clean Elections (WVCCE) is a set of 20 policy proposals that would increase accountability and transparency in West Virginia elections, make voting more accessible to all  citizens, limit the influence of big money in our politics, ensure fairness and impartiality in our courts, and increase citizen participation in the electoral process. The coalition is launching the platform in conjunction with the Our Children, Our Future (OCOF) People’s Policy Summit, where people from around the state will gather to discuss, strategize, and learn about the platform and other policy campaigns that are important to West Virginia families.

OCOF’s voter guide (voterguidewv.org) asked candidates where they stand on these proposals, and thought not every candidate has responded, more than 30 candidates have said they support the Pro-Democracy, Anti-Corruption Platform. The list includes Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, as well as Libertarian and Mountain party candidates.

“This is about fixing a broken system, giving average citizens more ability to have their voices heard, and moving toward a government that’s more transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of all West Virginians. We’re excited that candidates from all parties are pledging their support, and we hope more will follow their lead,” said Julie Archer, Coordinator for WVCCE.
