Dear Friends, Partners, & Allies, I know you, like nearly every West Virginian, understand the urgent need to strengthen our democracy and make our politicians work for us, not wealthy special interests. We need your help to make this a reality. Several bills have been introduced that advance the goals of the Pro-Democracy, Anti-Corruption Platform. Unfortunately, these bills are being held up in the Senate Judiciary Committee, including SB 115, which would require disclosure of dark money political expenditures to allow the public to know who is paying for political advertisements. This dark money spending is no longer limited to the election. A secretive group with unknown donors is attacking lawmakers for standing against them to oppose granting a multi-million-dollar managed-care contract for West Virginia foster children. It’s time to put an end to big money funneled through groups with secret donors by requiring timely online disclosure of all political spending. We have a right to know who is spending money to influence our votes and our elected representatives! Contact Senate Judiciary Chair Charles Trump at (304) 357-7880 or charles.trump@wvsenate.gov. Ask him to put SB 115 and other bills on the Pro-Democracy, Anti-Corruption Platform up for a vote! Click here for more on the status of the Pro-Democracy, Anti-Corruption Platform bills introduced so far. Thanks for your support in the fight for a democracy that works for everyone! Best, Julie Julie Archer, Coordinator |
