Invitation to For the People Act (HR 1) Coalition

Dear Friends, Partners, and Allies,

We’re writing to invite all of our partners and allies to participate in the For The People Act (HR 1) coalition. HR 1 is a once-in-a-generation democracy reform package to clean up our political system, expand and protect voting rights, end gerrymandering, and counter the power of big money in politics.

This is a coordinated effort between For West Virginia’s Future, WV Citizens for Clean Elections, the Declaration for American Democracy (DFAD – a national coalition of 190+ groups), and other terrific groups to build on the successful town hall we hosted with several of you in January.

The DFAD national partners are meeting every Tuesday at 2pm. We’re hoping to meet in-state before the next National partner call. If you’d like to join that National partner call please let us know and we’ll forward the invitation!

A few highlights of the For the People Act include:

• Counters the Citizens United decision / combats “dark money” spending 
• Requires automatic voter registration and allows same day registration for federal elections nationwide
• Bans partisan and racial gerrymandering
• Adopts independent redistricting commissions for to draw Congressional district maps and sets parameters under which the commissions shall be created
• Combats cyberattacks, election hacking, and disinformation campaigns

And much more! With HR 1, we have the opportunity to enact bold change in our democracy. Let’s do so together.
