Dear Friends, Partners, & Allies, This is just a friendly reminder about our upcoming fair courts workshop (Monday, June 18) and strategy session (Tuesday, June 19) next week. We’re excited to announce that Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Tod J. Kaufman will be joining us on June 18 to discuss his experience and perspectives on the judiciary. We obviously had the fair courts workshop planned before the news broke last week regarding the charges against WV Supreme Court Justice Allen Loughry. West Virginians are rightly furious over Justice Loughry’s behavior, and with confidence in the ethics and conduct of our judges at an all-time low, this is a good opportunity to come together to discuss how we can bring greater trust, accountability, and transparency to the judiciary. If you plan to attend please register at faircourts101.eventbrite.com for your choice of sessions. We welcome allies and partners who want to support this event by helping to get the word out, and/or bringing people from your organization. It’s easy to share the event through the Eventbrite page or our Facebook page. The following day, Tuesday, June 19 we will hold a Clean Elections Strategy & Messaging Session from 10am – 4pm at the at the Affiliated Construction Trades Foundation, 600 Leon Sullivan Way (1st Floor Conference Room) in Charleston. Wellstone and ReThink Media will join us to facilitate the discussion and help us develop a strategy to fight back against the special interests trying to take more control over our legislature and Supreme Court, and advance transparency and accountability in West Virginia elections. We hope you can join us for one or both events. Agendas will be forthcoming. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you next week! Best, Julie Julie Archer, Coordinator |
