Clean Elections Update

Dear Clean Elections Supporters,

Judiciary Chair Carrie Webster appointed Subcommittee A today, which will deal with election-related legislation. The subcommittee will be considering the legislative public financing bill, H2764. Members of the subcommittee are Del. Barbara Fleischauer, Chair, and Delegates Bonnie Brown, Mike Caputo, Patrick Lane and Patti Schoen. Please contact them and ask for their support in getting the bill reported positively to the full committee.

On Tuesday, Julie Archer arranged a conference call with Angela Miggaly at the Brennan Center for Senate Judiciary Counsel Rita Pauley and House Judiciary Counsel Brian Skinner. Julie, Beth White of the Association for Justice, and I also sat in on the call. They discussed both the hybrid system that could eliminate the trigger mechanisms for matching funds from our legislative bill, and some considerations for Senator Kessler’s judicial public financing bill, S311. It was a very productive conversation, and we have volunteered to be of any further assistance we can.

We received seven entries for the You-tube Clean Elections Video Contest. We now have the task of choosing the winners, which will be made available to the legislators for their viewing. We’ll provide links to the winning entries as soon as they are decided so you can view them, too.

Don’t forget our next coalition meeting on Thursday, March 12 at 10:30 A.M. We will gather in the conference room at the office of the Catholic Diocese, 1116 Kanawha Blvd, East. There is parking at the rear of the building. Hope to see you there!

Thanks for all you are doing for clean elections in West Virginia!
